Last week I fell on some stairs and fractured a couple of ribs. I was carrying the dog and couldn’t break my fall, landing heavily on my side.
This accident could really have not come at a worst time. We have scheduled a lot of yard work for the next two weeks. This week we had River City Tree Services remove approximately 20 trees from the yard and we need to finish cleaning up the gardens before the fencing company comes to put up a colourbond fence along the back boundary.
Most of the trees removed were palms of some description, a silky oak that was growing too closely to an ironbark, half ofย one neighbour’s mango tree that overhung the boundary and halfย of another neighbour’s umbrella tree that was also overhanging.
We’ve kept about five foxtail palms and one cuban palm but I’m not sure about the cuban palm. We might get it removed later on down the track. It’s big and if one of the fronds fell on someone it could potentially kill them.
I’m not sorry to see the palms go. Messy things and they were a lot of work. The previous owners over-planted the gardens. The frangipani trees have developed a disease called frangipani rust. I’m hoping opening up the gardens will help control the fungus.

Good luck on your recovery. Our yard is still under a foot of snow so I’m enjoying the indoors as much as possible.

Thank you oneowner. I’ve not lived in snow but I think not having to mow would be a good thing. But then again, I’m sure I’ve seen on the tv that you guys have to shovel snow, Always wondered where it gets shovelled to? ๐

Though you might be very busy, perhaps a good time to take a bit of rest and heal the body.. sometimes we want to do too much and then these little accidents happen.
But apart from that, i wish you a swift recovery and a beautiful lush (and controlable) garden ๐

Thanks very much Pieter. Yes, you are so very right. There is so much to pack into this life and way way too little time but it is when I’m at my quietest that I can truly appreciate living.

Thanks Alive and Trekking. The birds are enjoying all the insects being dug up at the moment.

Well, I can’t “like” fractured ribs. Hope you get help for the yard. Take care to get something to manage the pain so that you can breathe normally and avoid issues with the lungs. Still, one to two months of discomfort is not going to be fun.
. . . I hope the dog was appreciative of your sacrifice . . .

Paracetamol and Ibuprofen until yesterday (did it last Thursday) and paracetamol once today.
No time to be loafing about. The Dr gave me the heads-up about the lung issues but I’ve not got time to breathe.
I was using the shovel by the 6th day and on the seventh I created a garden. I’m feeling rather godlike ๐ Thanks for your comments disperser.
