Visiting Hamilton, New Zealand to attend a family reunion recently, we took some time out to visit a couple of local attractions. One being the Waitomo glow worm caves. We were planning to go black water rafting but it was too cold for these heat loving Queenslanders so we took a tour through one of the caves. The limestone caves themselves were ok but we have toured through the Jenolan caves in New South Wales so we were not overly impressed. The glow worms were interesting and our guide was a lot of fun.
We spent our last afternoon in New Zealand wandering around the Hamilton Gardens. Hamilton Gardens is not a botanical garden. Instead, its concept acknowledges there is a story to tell about gardens, their development over time and across cultures, and their use. The concept has also been compared to a museum, where each garden collection has historic integrity and provides a window into the story of civilisations, their arts, beliefs and lifestyles. (Ref)
