What do you do?

I am a property manager. I purchased the management rights to Point Plaza Apartments in Woody Point, Queensland, Australia in 2009. This is a 25 year contract to manage the complex and allows me to act as the rental agent. I can sell the contract if I wish at any time.

As the building care-taker my duties include organising contractors for maintenance work, cleaning common property and reporting to the Body Corporate.

Our complex is an 8 story building with 48 apartments and we have 7 retail shops on the ground level.

I have a rental pool of about 17 apartments which I rent out on long-term leases. I do not do holiday letting, preferring a more relaxed lifestyle.

Many building managers hire staff to do the cleaning and odd jobs but I prefer to pocket the money myself and not have the dramas associated with staff. The common property consists of the lobby, pool and sun deck and 8 corridors which are cleaned once a week. The car park is cleaned by contractors as part of the maintenance program a few times every year. I will on occasion hire contractors to cover me. Mainly when I go on holidays.

It’s a great lifestyle which allows me to come and go as I please.

Today I had maintenance contractors on-site clearing some blocked subterranean storm water pipes. Once I got them organised, I left them to it and went for a walk with MM (my man), my dog Chi and my little cannon ixus105

Our beach is still in a bit of a seasonal transition…….. sigh. It will not look as good as your beach even at the best of times. πŸ˜€

    • This is a beautiful spot Joseph although the water got a bit of tweaking to bring out the blue. When it’s windy and rough or when we have had a bit of rain the water here looks more like weak coffee due to the silt from the rivers that empty into the Bay πŸ™‚

    • You have had some interesting jobs Ian. Your current position sounds quite fulfilling. My hairdresser is a male who was a pediatric nurse in his last job. My grandparents came from an era where you started your working life and ended it working the same job for the same firm and can’t understand why people change jobs so often these days. Thanks for the re-blog. Enjoy the rest of your week πŸ™‚ Kristin
