The Gift of Time

The most precious thing I have at the moment is time. I gave my mother a 24 hour time voucher for Christmas which she used on Sunday and yesterday ( Monday).

The choice was hers as to how she would use the time. She opted for a day trip to the Gold Coast. She relinquished her licence about 15 years ago which has taken away her freedom to travel.

Her time started on Sunday when I picked her up and took her out to lunch. We walked around the Redcliffe markets then went back to my place for pizza and a sleep-over. We were up early Monday morning and drove off to the GC for breakfast and a stroll around Surfers Paradise.

We went down to Coolangatta to walk in the surf and take some pictures.

Leaving Tweed Heads, we drove the scenic route home, stopping off along the way for lunch. We followed the tweed river from Tweed Heads through Bilambil, Tumbulgum to state route 40. We travelled through Murwillumbah to Chillingham, crossing back into Queensland and driving through the Numinbah Valley. Keeping on State Route 97 (Nerang Murwillumbah Road)  will bring you passed the Hinze Dam and onto the M1 via State route 90 at Nerang

To my adoptive mother Shirley, thank you for caring for me and loving me unconditionally. You are my mother in every sense of the word. I love you 🙂

What a valuable and precious gift to give, and how wonderful that you spent a lovely day together enjoying beautiful scenes. 🙂

    • Thank you Jet, The weather was just perfect. There were some rain clouds around the GC when we arrived. The sun came out when we went down to the beach. We had drizzle along the scenic drive making travelling pleasant and setting the mood in the mountain areas with the low cloud. Mum rang me to tell me she had a wonderful time experiencing the high-rise city atmosphere of Surfers Paradise, the sand and ocean then the mountains and forests. She also said she slept like a log that night 🙂

    What a beautiful gift 🙂

    • Thanks Andrew. Mum lives alone in a small 1 b/r unit. Buying stuff is pointless. There is no room. She could probably do with a new pair of knickers but apart from that, she has the things she needs. I think older people love to wear their knickers beyond being useful as a rag, so my gift seemed rather practical 🙂
