Yesterday, many Aussies would have downed tools to watch the Melbourne Cup. The Melbourne Cup is Australia’s major thoroughbred horse race. Marketed as “the race that stops a nation”, it is a 3,200 metre race for three-year-olds and over. It is the richest “two-mile” handicap in the world, and one of the richest turf races. (Ref Wikipedia)
Horse racing is not really that exciting for me so we took off to Currumbin on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia for some Sun, Salt, Surf and Sand.
Great pics. I too do not really feel horse racing and government sanctioned gambling are appropriate – but sadly when working in an office in the city it is very hard to escape. Great idea to go to the beach.

Thank you 🙂 It’s a really pretty spot and the weather was great. I could sit for hours watching a horse chew grass in an open field but there is nothing appealing for me on a race track.

Thanks Suz, That was my first visit. I could have spent all day there just photographing the rocks. MM was tapping his toes in the sand so I was a bit rushed. It must be awesome there at sunrise. I must go back 🙂
